Generate a Lesson Plan

AI is a great tool to use when you’re creating a new lesson plan. There are quite a few resources and platforms out there to help with this, but we’re going to focus on MagicSchool.ai and their Lesson Plan Generator.

First things first: It’s free for teachers!

MagicSchool.ai has “focused on creating tools to streamline tedious tasks only teachers might recognize.” They have 60+ AI tools that are all customizable and easy to use. There’s a Rubric Generator, a Text Leveler Tool, and an Assignment Scaffolder, to name just a few. For this activity, we’re going to explore the Lesson Plan Generator, which will “generate a backwards planned lesson plan aligned to standards and objectives for any topic.”

First, you’ll need to make an account with MagicSchool.ai if you don’t already have one. As we said, it’s free for teachers.

Once you’re all logged in, you’ll see all of the different tools MagicSchool.ai has to offer with a brief explanation of what they do. You can filter them by category at the top of the screen. We’re going to select the “Lesson Plan Generator.”

Now you just have to fill out the form. You can select any grade ranging from pre-K through college, tell it what you’re teaching, any additional context you have, and the standards you need the lesson plan to align to.

We’re going to click the “See an Exemplar” button so you can see the tool in action.

On the left, you can see what information was filled out for each section of the form. On the right, you can see the completed lesson plan.

It has several sections, including objectives, key points, guided practice, homework, and a list of standards addressed. It even listed an additional standard that was met with the generated lesson. Now, it’s your turn! Click “Clear Exemplar” and fill in your own information.
